Botox Cosmetic Treatment
Botox is a nerve impulse "blocker" used for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. Botox Botulinum Toxin A is a purified biological protein that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. It binds to the nerve endings and prevents the release of chemical transmitters that activate muscle activity/movement. Botox blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. Botox relaxes the muscles so they do not contract. After treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected.
Botox treatments take no more than 10 minutes to administer, and require no anesthetic. It’s performed with a few tiny injections—and can last up to 4 months.
