Liposuction Surgery
Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery operation that removes fat from various parts of the body, ranging from the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, to the neck, backs of the arms and else where. It is a form of body contouring that recent advancements have made safe and effective to remove unsightly fatty tissues or stubborn areas of fat. The amount of fat removed varies by liposuction method, and patient, but it’s typically less than 10 pounds. Liposuction can also be used to remove smaller amounts of fat in areas of the neck, face, and arms.
Liposuction can be performed alone or in conjunction with another plastic surgery procedure, such as tummy tuck, buttock lift, arm lift, neck lift, or facelift.
Use of very small instruments makes these procedures much less traumatic to the skin and tissues resulting in much less bruising, and bleeding and faster recovery, without the dangers of conventional liposuction methods.
The procedure may be performed under general or local ("tumescent") anesthesia with minimal or no pain.
Most often, liposuction is performed on:
- The abdomen and thighs in women
- The abdomen and flanks in men
