How old is too old for plastic surgery?

What’s the right time to have cosmetic surgery? The answer depends on the individual. Same goes for, “How old it too old?” These days, older people are choosing to have procedures more frequently than ever, as Baby Boomers continue to fight the signs of aging.
Old enough to know what you want
According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the number of people age 65 and older having facelifts and eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty) has more than doubled in the last 20 years, with much of that increase occurring over the last five years. (Five years ago, the first Baby Boomers started hitting 65.)
People are living longer, they want to look better and they can afford it
The growth trend also reflects cultural and economic changes including a growing acceptance of cosmetic plastic surgery and a reduction in cost of many procedures. Lower costs have also made plastic surgery an option to a wider range of people. A generation ago, cosmetic plastic surgery was for a more exclusive group income-wise, but no longer. In addition, people are remaining in the work force and the dating game longer, and they want to stay competitive in both.
Surgical and non-surgical options have increased
Many older patients are choosing the traditional facelift, but they’re also having in-office, minimally invasive procedures that provide results but can lessen the risk of complications. Plus, they’re interested in the more modern trend of seeking subtle treatments that can help them appear refreshed and rested in their social and work lives.
How we perceive ourselves as we grow older
We don’t think about old age the same way as past generations. We’re also more physically fit later in life so we want to look as good as we feel. Most patients agree that their families love them just the way they are, but they want to feel better about themselves – for themselves. If you don’t like the way you look, there could be safe, effective ways to improve what you see.
