Over time, our skin begins to age, causing furrows and wrinkles around our eyes, forehead and mouth giving us an undesirable older appearance. Fortunately, dermal fillers like Juvéderm Injectable Gel can help to restore our faces to a younger and fresher appearance.
What is Juvéderm®?
Juvéderm injectable gel is a U.S. FDA-approved dermal filler that is designed to temporarily treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, in people older than 21. Results can last 6 to 9 months, and, in some cases, up to year. Juvéderm Injectables are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that helps to add volume and hydration to the treatment site. With Juvéderm, you will notice and experience immediate results.

How Does Juvéderm® Work?
Juvéderm® is injected under the skin to instantly restore the skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds. This includes “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds) — the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth. The injection process takes only about 15 minutes, and results are immediate.
If you are looking for a way to get more pronounced and defined cheek bones, then Juvéderm Voluma may be the thing for you. As another hyaluronic acid-based filler that’s part of the Juvéderm family, Juvéderm Voluma is not only proven to last up to two years but it is also used to help add more volume and contour to the cheeks.
As we age, we start to develop fine lines and wrinkles all across our face—including our lips. With Juvéderm Volbella, we can temporarily add subtle volume to your lips while simultaneously smoothing the appearance of vertical lip lines which lasts up to a year.
If you have noticed that the wrinkles across your face are getting deeper, then Juvéderm Vollure may be right for you. Juvéderm Vollure helps soften moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles and can last up to 18 months on average.
What to Expect After Juvéderm®
The results of Juvéderm® are visible immediately after injection. If you experience any swelling and bruising, ice can be applied. Swelling and bruising should subside during the next few days.
For the first 24 hours after treatment, to reduce the risk of complications, patients should avoid:
- Strenuous exercise
- Excessive sun or heat exposure
- Alcohol consumption
There’s minimal recovery or downtime, so you can continue with your daily schedule and regular activities within minutes after your treatment. Some patients may experience side effects that are usually mild to moderate and last seven days or fewer.
Side effects may include temporary injection site reactions such as:
- Pain or tenderness
