RHA Fillers

What Are RHA Fillers?

RHA fillers are an advanced form of dermal filler based on Resilient Hyaluronic Acid (RHA). These fillers contain a dermal gel that your body will not be able to distinguish from its own naturally occurring hyaluronic acid. This method was developed in Switzerland and has been popular in Europe for some time. However, RHA fillers are exclusive in the United States, and Dr. Armen Serebrakian at the Bay Area Laser Cosmetic Surgery Center is delighted to provide innovative RHA fillers in Larkspur and Pinole, CA.

How Is RHA Filler Different from Better-Known Hyaluronic Acid Fillers?

Hyaluronic acid undoubtedly sounds familiar because it is a common ingredient in dermal fillers, such as Restylane® and Juvéderm®. RHA fillers stand out from these other fillers because they are the only dermal fillers that are FDA-approved for their safety and effectiveness in treating the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It has additionally been approved to augment the lips.

RHA has clinically proven more effective than common fillers when treating facial expression-related facial lines from laughing, squinting, etc. Skin experts like Dr. Serebrakian also respect RHA because it uses fewer chemicals than some treatments. It’s almost identical to the hyaluronic acid your body usually produces.

What Can RHA Filler Do?

Dr. Serebrakian uses RHA filler:

  • Add definition to targeted facial areas
  • Reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Enhance lip fullness
  • Eliminate fine lines associated with frequent facial expressions (laugh lines, worry lines, crow’s feet, etc.)
  • Reduce nose and lip folds
  • Reduce chin lines

Does RHA FIller Contain Any Other Ingredients?

In addition to hyaluronic acid, RHA treatments contain 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE), which aids in binding to the area to enhance its effects. RHA fillers also contain 0.3%, which gently numbs the injection site to reduce discomfort.

What Should You Expect During an RHA Procedure in Larkspur and Pinole, CA?

Several formulations are available to help Dr. Serebrakian achieve the desired results, so he will discuss your image goals to determine the correct formulations. These fillers contain lidocaine, a numbing agent, but if you are particularly sensitive to needles, the team can also apply a topical numbing agent. The needle is very thin and just wide enough for highly targeted injections. Most patients will only feel a little pinch.

There is no recovery time required. However, Dr. Serebrakian suggests you wait 24 hours before working out. You may experience bruising, redness, and swelling lasting up to three days.

How Many Treatments Are Needed?

The size of the treatment areas determines the number of injections needed to meet your image goals. The typical session only lasts 30 minutes. You generally do not need multiple treatment appointments, as multiple injections can be administered within the 30-minute window.
