We are always researching and testing new products and treatments that come to the beauty market, but we’re often left a little deflated. Those expensive creams and tools often feel like someone’s trying to sell us snake oil. Did anyone actually get results from this product, or did they just want to make a product with the trendiest new ingredient? Even worse, it often takes way too long to see results from at-home treatments. Your return window is gone and you’re stuck with something that didn’t even work.

We don’t have time for that, especially when we know that so many professional treatments work better than much of what you can do at home. Keep reading to learn about microdermabrasion and how it can be used to resurface the skin.

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive spa treatment that rejuvenates the appearance of the skin by treating sun damage, hyperpigmentation and other unwanted skin problems. This procedure uses tiny particles to manually exfoliate the outer layer of skin, leaving younger-looking skin and a bright, glowing appearance behind. Microdermabrasion can be combined with other procedures such as chemical peels or laser treatment for heightened results, too.

What does microdermabrasion treat?

If you’re concerned with the amount of sun damage or other superficial skin issues like sun spots or fine lines you’ve gathered over the years, microdermabrasion can help treat them. Microdermabrasion is a great alternative to chemical peels and other resurfacing treatments to help give you a glowing boost.

How long before I see results?

We love microdermabrasion because of how quickly we can see results from this treatment. Often, we recommend having a series of treatments to get the absolute best results, but you should be able to see results immediately after each treatment. Is there anything better than knowing what you’re getting is working?

How long do results last?

The best results are found in patients who take great care of their skin after their treatments. That means cleansing thoroughly, moisturizing properly, and wearing sunscreen every day.

IPL for Flawless Skin

Many products and treatments claim to banish scars and hyperpigmentation, but do they actually do what they claim? You may be one of those people who feel like they’ve tried it all. Sometimes, you just use products, knowing they don’t work for you, just to avoid looking at them in your cupboard any more. It turns that that it may not be so easy to erase scarring or dark spots, and chances are you’re sick of looking at those marks day in and day out.

If you’ve tried everything, then it’s time to learn about photofacials and how they work to treat the surface-level issues you may have. Keep reading to learn more about this life-changing treatment.

What is IPL?

IPL is short for Intense Pulsed Light, and this treatment may also be called broadband light (BBL), photorejuvenation, or photofacial. Though it is similar to lasers, IPL is not a laser. Laser treatments often only treat one specific skin concern and IPL machines are much more nimble and versatile. We are able to vary the wavelengths of light that IPL machines use, so it is not uncommon that we can often treat numerous skin issues at once. Did you know that IPL can be used to treat scars, dark spots, and rosacea?

Who is a good candidate for IPL treatments?

Those who suffer from the following are  good candidates for IPL treatments:

  • Redness
  • Pigment Issues
  • Brown or Red Spots
  • Freckles
  • Rosacea

How long will results last?

With IPL, the best results surface as your skin turns over naturally, which can take up to a few months. If you are looking for a quick treatment with immediate results for an upcoming event, other treatments may be better suited to you. But, if you’re looking for great results and don’t mind waiting a little while for them, then IPL is a great option to give you a more flawless, youthful complexion.

Choosing the Right Sunscreen for Optimal Skin Protection

Skin Rejuvenation Pinole CASun damage can occur on the cloudiest of days as well as sunny afternoon. That’s why it is so important to arm your skin with the best defense: sunscreen. The majority of sun damage in adults occurs before the age of 18, but there’s still a lot you can do to protect what you have when you hit your 20’s, 50’s or whatever age you are. Here, we will give you the insights you need to select the best sunscreen for optimal skin protection. Remember, sunscreen can help fight against premature aging, sun spots, and wrinkles. If you don’t often wear sunscreen (or at all!) it’s never too late to start.

Look for the right ingredients

The brand of sunscreen you use is inconsequential if it doesn’t have the right ingredients. First, you will need a sunscreen that contains broad spectrum or multi spectrum protection for UVA (ultraviolet A rays) and UVB (ultraviolet B rays). UVA rays don’t cause sunburn, but they can still increase the chance of skin cancer. UVB rays are also a cancer causing ray. The ingredients that contain broad spectrum protection are benzophenones (oxybenzone), cinnamates (octylmethyl cinnamate and cinoxate), sulisobenzone, salicylates, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, avobenzone (Parsol 1789) and ecamsule (Mexoryl SX). For UVA protection, look for at least one of these ingredients in your sunscreen: ecamsule, avobenzone, oxybenzone, titanium dioxide, sulisobenzone, or zinc oxide.

SPF is also an important factor to look for. The SPF is a rating that indicates how effective a sunscreen is at preventing UVB ray burns. For instance, if you typically burn after 10 minutes, an SPF 15 (multiplied by 10 minutes) is 150. This means you can last 150 minutes in the sun before burning. Make sure you get at least an SPF of 15. For those with fair, light, or sensitive skin go for an SPF factor of 30.

Match the sunscreen to your activity

If you are going shopping at an outdoor mall versus a visit to the pool, you’ll want very different sunscreens. For any activity where you will get wet or sweat, like swimming or exercising, get a water resistant sunscreen.

Two Lesser Known Skincare Tips for Sun Protection

Two Lesser Known Skincare Tips for Sun Protection | Skin Rejuvenation Pinole CAYour skin is an incredible organ that protects your body while revealing your age. Excessive sun exposure can cause long term damage, sun spots, wrinkles, and skin cancer. Here two lesser known skincare tips to protect your skin this summer.

Watch What You Wear

Hot weather and a warm sun make it easy to head outdoors and enjoy a game of golf, a jog, or simply go shopping. Unfortunately the sun’s warm rays aren’t helping your skin. A great way to begin protecting your skin is to wear the right clothing. To shield your face and head, wear a hat. Anything from a stylish sun hat to a baseball cap can go a long way in helping you stay cool while protecting your skin from burning.

When it comes to clothing, you can choose fabrics that have the ability to shield against the sun’s rays. You don’t even need to buy special brands or products. Instead, simply look in your closet. Garments made of unbleached cotton, thin, satiny silk, and high-luster polyesters have the unique ability to absorb or reflect UV radiation. They can stop the sun’s harmful rays from reaching your skin.

Get Your Lip Balm on!

The lips are a common spot for skin cancer to appear. If your lips are cracked, peeling, or scaly, this may be a sign of actinic keratoses. This is a condition that may be an indication of early stage skin cancer. When searching for the right lip balm, look for products that have SPF 15 or higher and apply it every few hours. When you are out in the sun, don’t wear high shine lip gloss, baby oil, or petroleum jelly. If you wear lipstick, opt for darker shades as they provide more protection. Even better, buy lipstick with an SPF component or use an SPF lip balm underneath your lipstick for added protection and moisturizing.

Rejuvenate your Skin with Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion Larkspur, CAIf you have sun damage, scars, wrinkles, or dark spots on your skin, microdermabrasion is for you. Microdermabrasion is a procedure that uses fine purified crystals to lightly exfoliate the skin. It does not require anesthesia and allows patients to immediately return to their normal activities. Consider the following benefits, risks, and results of microdermabrasion to see if this is the right treatment for you.

The Benefits of Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a popular skin enhancing procedure that can improve age spots, exfoliate the skin, create a refreshed appearance, decrease the visibility of stretch marks and wrinkles, lessen the appearance of pores, and treat acne scars.

As we age, collagen production decreases, resulting in the uneven and loose skin. Microdermabrasion can improve collagen production, which aids in creating a more full and youthful appearance.

The Risks of Microdermabrasion

If you experience any discomfort after your microdermabrasion treatment, it is typically temporary. For instance, you may have some swelling or redness after your treatment, but this will slowly disappear over the next day. In some cases, you may experience dryness or flakiness over the next week. Other risks include:

  • Bruising due to the suction that occurs during the treatment.
  • Skin that is extra sensitive to the sun. To avoid sun damage, be sure to apply sunscreen if you are going to be outside after your treatment.

The Results of Microdermabrasion

The results of your treatment are temporary. To maintain the refreshed and rejuvenated look that microdermabrasion provides you will need to get regular treatments. The frequency of your treatments will depend on the severity of your skin damage and what your skin specialist recommends for a maintenance plan. After your treatment, you can immediately reprise your regular activities, but staying out of direct sunlight for a few days is recommended.
