What is liposuction?
Liposuction is the manual removal of fat cells from the body. This can be performed on any area of the body, but is extremely common in the midsection, buttocks, thighs, and flanks. However, areas such as the upper arms and neck can also be treated with this same procedure. Because the body doesn’t produce new fat cells, the results from liposuction are long-term as long as patients maintain their ideal body weight, keep active, and eat right. Remaining fat cells can enlarge, which is why it is important for patients to continue to maintain an active lifestyle.
How long is recovery from liposuction?
The area being liposuctioned and the amount of fat removed may have an impact on the overall recovery. The amount of time a patient needs to take off of work can also vary depending on their career. For patients who move around, lift heavy objects, and require manual labor each day, more time will be needed to recovery before returning to a normal routine. Alternatively, patients who work from home or at a computer desk may be able to return sooner. It is best that patients talk to Dr. Armen Serebrakian about the expected timeframe for proper healing.
