What occurs during liposuction?
Liposuction is the manual removal of fat cells from any area of the body. This is achieved with a device connected to a cannula, which is a long suctioning wand that is inserted into the treatment area. The device essentially vacuums the fat cells from the treatment area for permanent removal. Very small incisions in the treatment area are made to insert the cannula and reduce the appearance of any scarring that might remain afterward.
Why should I choose liposuction?
Liposuction has been used for decades in contouring the body and removing fat that often does not respond to diet and exercise. Liposuction is not a weight loss solution, though some patients will experience a drop in weight depending on the amount of fat physically removed from the body during the procedure. Most patients use liposuction to target areas that are not responsive to more traditional ways of reducing body fat, and for those seeking permanent removal.
Liposuction is:
- Safe and effective at permanently removing fat cells
- A popular treatment for patients worried about pockets of unwanted fat on the body
- Performed with sedation and anesthetics for patient comfort
- An option for patients within their ideal body weight
- Fast and simple
