You’ve heard of Botox, but what happens when you’re offered Dysport or Xeomin to treat wrinkles? Don’t be confused by the various names, because though they have different manufacturers, they basically offer the same kind of results.
Botox, Dysport and Xeomin
These are all popular and proven injectable “neuromodulators,” formulated from bacterium Clostridium Botulinum, also known as Botulinum Toxin A. That means all three can temporarily paralyze nerve impulses in targeted muscles, reducing or eliminating wrinkles caused by contracting facial muscles.
What’s the difference?
Each brand has a slightly different formulation, but they all work the same way, blocking nerve impulses to stop muscle movements that can cause wrinkles. And most professionals use them interchangeably.
A versatile treatment
Most people rely on Botox, Dysport and Xeomin to improve facial appearance by smoothing or eliminating:
Horizontal lines across the forehead
Perpendicular frown lines
Crow’s feet
Nasal scrunch lines
Eyebrow arching lines
By reducing the intensity and frequency of your facial muscle contractions, these injectables can also prevent deeper wrinkles and lines from forming in the first place. So Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are also considered preventive, anti-aging strategies when used consistently over time. Plus, the products are also used to treat profuse underarm sweating, overactive bladder problems and migraines.
Go slow, regardless of the productYou’ll want to see how you react to injectable treatments and how you feel about your results. So it’s best to adopt the “less is more” attitude the first time you try Botox, Dysport or Xeomin. You can always use more next time. And remember, subtle is always better.
Results aren’t instant, but almostYou should notice results, including smoother skin, less wrinkles and a lifted, awake, more youthful appearance, in about two to three days after your injections. And results typically last four to six months. However, when lines start to reappear, they may be less severe because your facial muscles are being trained to be more relaxed.
