Frequently asked questions about blepharoplasty

istock 931331532 1 Whether a patient is struggling to maintain their field of vision due to drooping eyelids or want to address bags underneath that make them look tired, the blepharoplasty procedure is often a smart choice. Dr. Armen Serebrakian and his team at the Bay Area Laser Cosmetic Surgery Center are committed to providing the best possible care for patients seeking facial plastic surgery, including those who need to address changes or imperfections around the eyes. This surgery, called blepharoplasty, is a highly recommended eyelid surgery for those affected by vision imperfections.

Below are a few of the more commonly asked questions regarding this facial procedure:

What eyelid is addressed during blepharoplasty?

During this procedure, patients can have either the upper eyelid or the lower eyelid addressed on one or both eyes in a single surgery.

How is the procedure performed?

We perform all procedures as an outpatient treatment in which patients will leave the surgical center and be sent home for recovery and healing. The procedure is performed with general anesthesia, and an anesthesiologist will monitor the patient’s vitals throughout the surgery.

How much time do I need to take off work to recover?

The amount of time needed to recover and return to work varies depending on the patient’s job. In most cases, patients will take several days off of work and may avoid social activities until swelling and bruising is managed.

Does this procedure leave behind scars?

Dr. Armen Serebrakian of Bay Area Laser Cosmetic Surgery Center will perform the procedure in such a way to avoid noticeable scarring. Incisions are general made within the natural folds of the eyelids to easily disguise them.

Will this procedure help with wrinkles such as crow’s feet around the eyes?

Certain wrinkles and folds around the eyes, such as forehead folds or crow’s feet, are better addressed with certain procedures such as a brow lift or cheek lift. Patients seeking a nonsurgical approach may also want to ask about cosmetic injectables such as Botox or hyaluronic acid dermal fillers that can provide results as well.
