There’s a lot to love about liposuction

Liposuction is a popular cosmetic plastic surgery method. Using a cannula inserted under the skin and attached to a high-pressure vacuum, the procedure breaks up and suctions fat cells from various areas of the body.
Treating unwanted fat pockets, wherever they live
Liposuction can be performed practically head-to-toe — everywhere from the neck, chest, upper arms and stomach to the back, buttocks, hips and thighs – even under the chin. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the procedure is most commonly performed on the thighs and abdomen for women and the abdomen and love handles for men.
What liposuction can’t do
The treatment is not meant as a method for weight-loss, although you could drop a pound or two of unwanted fat. Instead, liposuction is a cosmetic sculpting tool, and works best on those with stubborn areas of fat that haven’t responded to diet and exercise. Liposuction can’t eliminate skin issues, such as cellulite, dimples or stretch marks. In fact, for some older patients or others with less skin elasticity, loss of fat from liposuction can cause the skin in the area to sag.
Liposuction has gotten even better over the last three decades of use
Today’s liposuction techniques allow us to remove a larger, though limited number of fat cells, with less blood loss, less risk, less discomfort and less recovery time. And your unwanted fat can now be used as natural filler, taken from one part of the body, cleaned and injected into an area of the body where it’s actually wanted and needed.
Liposuction removes fat permanently
The fat cells that are suctioned out never come back; however, if you regain weight and don’t adopt healthier habits, there’s a risk that remaining fat cells can increase in size and volume.
